About Baytown

Baytown is located approximately 26 miles east of Downtown Houston. The main roadways through the city are I-10 and Highway 146. Baytown is connected to the city of La Porte via Highway 146 and the Fred Hartman Bridge. The Fred Hartman Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge connects the 2 cities over a length of 2 miles of water in the bay.

The city is located next to a number of bays, hence the name, including Burnet Bay, Crystal Bay, Scott Bay, Mitchell Bay, and Tabb Bay. It is also located close to the mouth of the San Jacinto River.

The petroleum industry is very influential on the Baytown area. ExxonMobil and Chevron Phillips have complexes and refineries just outside Baytown's city limits. Baytown is an excellent area for these businesses because of their location on the Galveston Bay.
