About Deer Park

Deer Park is about 20 miles to the east of Downtown Houston. Residents access Houston via TX 225. Deer Park was named after the large number of deer that resided in the area before early settlers came. Simeon Henry West founded the town in 1892 and gave the community its name. The town remained extremely small with only a few businesses and houses until 1928 when the Shell Oil Company built a refinery in Deer Park. At this point, the town grew to a population of 100, but the population grew exponentially after World War II. The city has a current population of 32,010.

Deer Park is very close to where the Battle of San Jacinto was fought. The cabin where the initial surrender treaty was signed was located close to Buffalo Bayou which lines the northern border of Deer Park.
