About Richmond

Richmond is located southeast of Houston. It lies about 30 miles outside of Downtown Houston. Residents access Houston via I-69. The city has a current population of 11,679. It is surrounded by Rosenberg, Pecan Grove, the Brazos River, and other unincorporated areas. Richmond was built in its location because Austin's Colonists came down the Brazos river and decided to build Fort Bend. Eventually, the area was populated with a number of settlers. Richmond became the location of many government buildings, while residents lived in nearby Rosenberg. Richmond was incorporated in 1837. It was one of the first cities to be incorporated in the Republic of Texas before Texas was annexed by the United States. Richmond is known for having a number of historic buildings within its city limits.
