About Texas City

Texas City is located about 40 miles southeast of Houston. It is accessible from Houston via I-45. Texas City is well known for having the largest man-made dike. The dike was built in the 1930's from tumbled granite rocks. The dock stretches over 5 miles long towards Galveston Island. The dike was built to protect the low-lying flatlands of Texas City from potential floods caused by hurricanes. The dike not only protects the city, but it also protects the ships in Texas City's harbor.

Texas City's Ports is one of the main importers and exporters for Houston's industries. It is the eighth largest port in the United States. There are close connections to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific Railroads for expedient transportation of goods.
